Orange Drink is a pro vegetarian/straight-edge/queer band from Chicago, Illinois that plays dance/indie/folk/art rock/noise music. Our performances are constantly changing and are consistently unpredictable. We would love to play a show at your house.
Website visitors: If you want to play a show with our band, book a show, represent us, collaborate with us, heck, even join the band, don't hesitate to ask!
Here is a photo taken by Marjorie Becker of Drew playing drums with Graffiti Monsters at the Blip Festival in 2007. It was chiptastical. Hope to see you at Blip Festival this year?!?
I almost had a heart attack last night. I went to check the website in my usual "Did I update the website yesterday?" panic, and !!!!!!!!! NO POST FOR 10/27! I'VE LET THE ORANGE DRINK FANS DOWN!
...false alarm, false alarm. I posted yesterday and didn't change the date, as I typically copy and paste the code and change the date and content. I left the typo for fun. Phew!

One day, the people who edit Wikipedia will feel silly for calling us a "Glorified Garage Band" when they realize that Narcolepsy was recorded in a bedroom, and The Widowmaker was recorded in a room above a garage. Until we become not non-notable, we will accept our article deletion with pride, and you internet-savvy fans can use it as a hallmark of your indie cred.
Said with disdain: "Oh, don't even bother looking them up on Wikipedia. They are too underground." *scoff*
A first for us: Last night's impromptu birthday party show was interrupted by an angry neighbor banging on the wall! Orange Drink: Too Hot For Apartment Buildings. We successfully performed "Sleeping Is Not A Crime" (w/xylophone solo) and were getting ready to segue into top-secret-dance-floor-banger when someone freaked out and couldn't handle the OD.
...but maybe the loud banging was dancing was because they wanted us to TURN IT UP! Happy Birthday Christina!
More items from the vault: A review of a show over 2 years ago! 10/4/07:
"These guys opened the show last night. I walked in on their set and all I could hear were static beats and a repetitive sample of the words Orange Drink. So far I was amused. Then once I got to take a look at the two guys on the stage, I couldn't be more entertained (that is until I saw Baby Magic, but that was a whole different level of entertainment) because these guys were good. Good in the nerdy, don't give a shit, I can dance and have different talents up my sleeve kind of way. Over all really good performers. I really enjoyed the diversity of their set. At first, walking in, I had the thought, oh... another 2 guy electronic band. Don't I see those everywhere? But they were more than that.... a few songs were electronic, a few instrumental, a kazoo solo, and then there was the black masked one man dance sequence.... awesome.
Read a review of our 1st album, for The Widowmaker, for old time's sake! If you are intrigued by the review, you might want to kindly request a free download.
Want to hear some new music? Check out our friends in Swoon Method. Check out the song "Yes, Relapse". Swoon Method features, Keith Dukavicius, a talented Chicago filmmaker.
Whoa whoa WHOA! I think an archive needs to happen because this page is getting maaad long. Anyway, check out One Sweet Song where Gina (of Palmyra fame) posts one song per (business) day. Aside from posting our track (you can download it there) I think it's a great idea for a website. She considers it her ongoing mixtape that she is sharing with us - thanks Gina! So please, visit her site, listen to all the other cool tracks, and then BLOW UP the comments section for the Orange Drink track. *wink*
Christie passed the bar exam! She is a real lawyer now, as opposed to the "as seen on TV" fake-lawyer she had been parading as for a few months. The following video is dedicated to her. Turn the volume UP!
Come to think of it, the last proper dance video was over 2 years ago, and then the last video with a little bit of dancing was over 1 year ago! People be all like, "AY YO, DO Y'ALL DANCE ANYMO'?"
Don't call it a comeback; we've been here for years.
Soapbox was really fun. The turnout was crazy! Apologizes to the people who were told to leave, I think there was a mix up about which event was going on that night. Special thanks to SoapBox Productions for the free pizza, and Spinnerty for the telecast performance! (Whoa, seriously go to Spinnerty's website and click on "about" and check out those killer animated pictures!) Anywhoo, I took some video of the event, and will post that. Why am I not posting it now? Because I just got this new used computer that was made in 2005, and I need to get some video editing software for it.
The Depreciation Guild is playing a show tonight at The Empty Bottle. I would go, but I'm going to tonight's Soapbox Session where I will play some unreleased Orange Drink demos on behalf of the Orange Drink Secret Society. The performance will be around 5 minutes and should be crazy. The last one was great. But I plan on purchasing The Depreciation Guild's album, In Her Gentle Jaws on vinyl. It is a free download, so please listen to it, and if you like it, go to tonight's show! [If you don't like it, come to Soapbox.]
Going to be tied up in airports all day tomorrow, so here is your daily news:
Today I was driving around listening to Narcolepsy. When I got back in the car from visiting Christie, the sound was off. But the CD was playing. Was the volume down? I turned it up. No sound. I turned it up even louder.
BLAM! I jumped in my seat.
...I was tricked by the silence break in "Never Coming Home". I laughed a lot.
Columbus Day - still out of town. 3 videos coming soon! We'll be making some new shirts and stickers. Feel free to submit some design ideas. The weather here is nice.
Nice! I figured out how to update this website on OPCs (Other People's Computers). So when I go out of town this weekend, there will be updates! Today's news: Debra and I filmed for a new puppet video. I will post a picture/screenshot tomorrow.
Debra is visiting the Hemlock House! Debra is an amazing puppeteer, among other things. True story: She and her husband are my puppeteering mentors. So you can thank them for Fred's amazing dance moves.
Fred: "What the heck is that junk? You can thank ME for all of my dance moves."
Drew: "Fred, can you stop? I'm trying to update the website."
Fred: "Tell the girls to e-mail me."
Drew: "Okay."
Fred: "You're not typing!"
Drew: "Yes I am!"
Fred: "TELL THE GIRLS TO E-MAIL ME! HEY LADIES, E-MAIL ME!"
Anyway, since Debra is here, stay tuned for a possible new Fred & Bear video. Fred & Bear have produced some Orange Drink promotional videos in the past.
Oh boy. I had better figure out how to archive this stuff pretty soon. Today's update is some new music from our crew member Zirafa. I don't know how to steal the website code, so just listen to the track on DJ Limbs' website. Also, check him out Limbs cause he is an ill DJ.
They say that you should put your band's music on "autoplay" so you force website visitors to listen to the music. Well, considering the fact that I am updating this website every day, I'm getting a bit tired of having to turn it off! And since we're updating every day, you should be visiting every day, so you know the music is there if you want it! All we ask is that you listen to it once. No - Twice.
This is a picture of Cory Brandan and Jake Schultz of the band Norma Jean with a copy of our noise-punk-folk album, The Widowmaker. If you like the sound of a T-Rex eating muscle cars, check out Norma Jean!
The days go by really fast when you update a website every day!
Here are some photos from our Gallery Cabaret show, which was Rachel's first show. This pictures were taken by her buddy Amit, and are posted without permission. Thanks, Amit! Also, I saw Anti-Pop Consortium last night and it was awesome.
Here is a picture of our friend/homeboy/crew member Kaveh Ardalan who is dancing on stage with a ...walker? He was attending the show of the band The Very Best. You can find the other pictures of this show at Stereogum.com. Kaveh runs the website audiozine.org, which is a great place to find new music.
How is this post relevant to Orange Drink, you might ask? Look at that shirt!
In Tall Buildings show was awesome and don't fret, we'll be playing a show with them again, so you'll see them. "Don't fret" is a guitar joke. Speaking of bad puns, happy birthday yesterday to BK and Rogge!
I know it is technically cheating to post an old video as part of an update, but since we are doing this whole new website thing, there are a lot of new visitors who don't know how awesome OD was/is. Here is Fred, promoting our first all-electro/dance show.
The Loft3a show was insane and fun. We couldn't plug in our equipment, so we did a highly improvised show which ended up being pretty hilarious for us. Here are some pictures, courtesy of Zoe.
Here are some kids chillin.
Here are some kids being friendly.
Here is Palmyra from Brooklyn, NY. I missed their set because I was coming from Mike's birthday party. Rachel said they they were cool and I liked the music I heard on their website. They were super friendly to chat with, I can tell you that for sure. I hope to see them in the future.
Here is Erik Hall. I walked in on the middle of his set and was awestruck by his music. He performed solo with an electric guitar and a loop pedal. His guitar had a very tasteful touch of overdrive. He sung unamplified, and really made use of the sonic space in the room. He is a talented fellow and I highly recommend his work.
Here is us. Rachel hurt her hand on the tamborine, but she played injured because that's what we do here at Orange Drink. I have full on rock stance in this photo. I filmed the show and will post it later, bye for now.
SEPTEMBER 26TH 2009
We have a show tonight! We hope to see you there! It should be awesome. Tonight is Mike's birthday party, so crash that early, and then come to the OD show.
SEPTEMBER 25TH 2009
Check it out! An update the next day! I am sorry to report that our wonderful website premiere was unfortunately interrupted.
SEPTEMBER 24TH 2009
AY YO WHAT UP!
This is the fake-new website. I made it last night in 8 hours by reverse engineering Chris' website for Fade To Fall. A website like this shouldn't take 8 hours, but I'm learning! Chris is going to make us a brand new website, but he is busy since he just got back from Italy, where he got engaged to Erika! Congratulations to those crazy kids and hardcore OD supporters.
We have a brand new band photo, which was meticulously deconstructed on a Video Cassette Recorder. It features me and Rachel, our newest member, who you can hear on 'Sleeping Is Not A Crime'. What happened to Farsheed, you might ask? Don't worry, he's still part of the crew. You may have seen him performing as Zirafa before, after, or even during an Orange Drink set. He and Brendan performed at HyperKewl last Monday, and it was incredible. Great sets all around from Sitari, Protman, Velva, and Kkrusty. I am a huge fan of all of them. Go listen.
I'm going to try to update this more often (I don't want to promise daily), but I'm not sure how the archiving thing is going to work. This website looks best on Safari, and looks terrible on Internet Explorer for Macintosh. I have no idea how to fix that kind of thing, but you get what you pay for, right? Bye.
